Womens Golf in Houston is back!

For many, golf is perceived as a male dominated sport; however, let's not forget about the ladies on the fairway. The Swanson Golf Center certainly hasn't forgotten about Houston's women golfers.

Starting March 5th and 7th we are beginning our 6 week course dedicated to the wonderful women of golf. The focus of the class is to teach every aspect of the game starting from golf terminology, all the way to full swing video analysis on our in-house Trackman Range System. It's a fun way to improve your game and maybe make some new friends in the process. Check out the poster below for more information

Up and Going

Like I said in my first blog....blogging is not really in my wheel house so here is an update of our facility. We have been open now for just over 2 months and things are going great! Our School building is complete...2 bays for teaching and video analysis and one for club fitting. We have all of the latest in technology to help our students get fit into proper clubs and to get there swings in order. The short game area is fully grown in and really gives our customers a great place to work on their chipping, putting, and sand game. Our pond is fully stocked with some big bass for fun catch and release fishing. School is in session with weekly clinics, junior camps, and schools. Here are some pictures to see the finished product.

Well we have been open for 2 weeks now and the response has been great! We are up to almost 20 members and the vision we had for the practice facility is coming to fruition. Our grass on the tee is almost completely grown in, we are now working on the details of our entrance, grill, and shortgame area. As you will see from the pictures we have our golf shop fully stocked, and we are ready to take care of all your golfing needs. $1,000,000 Hole-in-One Contest in less then 3 weeks!!!

A big day at the Golf Center

We are doing a lot of work to get the driving range ready for our "soft" opening tomorrow. The guys from Star Brite Electric were out here Wednesday night aiming the lights on the driving range. It was a late night, but I think we got we got them just about right.

Right now we've got the whole crew, even the instructors, outside doing some last minute beautification work. We are laying sod all along the back of the tee line and along the front walk of the club house.

It has been so great doing this project with local companies like Yousse Irrigation, located just down the street from the Golf Center, Heritage Links and Nuzzo Design, Houston companies that are widely respected in the golf industry. These companies do work worldwide. We have been very fortunate to have them involved in this project.

Sports-Off Center Comes Out for a Tip

Michelle the intern from the sports TV show Sports Off Center hosted by Craig Roberts came out for a couple of tips. As you can see from the picture progress has continued to be made on the range, we are actually standing on the pad that will be used for hitting off our mat. We plan on using the mats infrequently as possible. We will use the mats for the first month of being open while our grass continues to mature until our Grand Opening Sept.12th

Construction Resumes!

The rain stopped and after a week of letting the water drain off the property we were able to resume the process of renovating Classic 3 into Houston's Premier Practice Facility, Teaching Center, Golf Shop, Grill, and Fishing Hole!!! Sorry if I sound excited. The process included some serious heavy dirt movers and trucks. We de-mucked the old lakes and started digging our irrigation lake....Fishing Hole! Did I mention that we will be adding a full service Grill to the facility...Hit some balls, have a burger, chip and putt, and tug on a five pound bass.

Construction Starts

Construction on our renovation began the last week of April. If you remember that was when we got about 11 inches of rain. We had drained the lakes and we were about to start digging our irrigation lake when the skies opened and our whole property was under water.

Original Sellingers Classic Three

Well here we go. This is my first attempt at "Blogging" As some of those close to me know this is like pulling teeth! Writing is not at the top of my hobby list! The Swanson Golf Center coming to fruition is a dream come true for me. I am lucky enough that I have been able to have a job doing something I love, teaching golf and being around the game, and now I have an oppurtunity to create the ulitmate Golf Practice-Training Facility.

The idea came from one of my students who really liked to come to our Wildcat facility and practice in our indoor bays. He suggested that we open a place downtown where folks could come and hit indoors and work on their game. A good idea, but I really did not know how that would fly. I did feel like there was a lack of quality lighted comprehensive practice facilities in Houston. The search for real estate began. After running the idea past my good friend Saul Sellinger owner of Sellingers Classic Three, A lighted par 3 course in the Champions area, he said "Why dont you buy this place?" So to make a long story short approximately 15 months, a hurricane, and an economic collapse we closed on Sellingers Classic Three in mid April and shortly after started the rennovation.

I hired Mike Nuzzo of Nuzzo Course Design http://www.nuzzo.net/ to design and manage the project. Mike and I have been friends for 7 or 8 years and I knew he would put his heart and soul into this project. As you will see in the coming weeks leading up to the Grand Opening September 12 Mike has done a fabulous job!
